Sheep to Shawl Teams forming!
We are forming 1-2 teams to participate in Fleece to Shawl or Sheep to Shawl Competitions this year.
We are attempting to sign up for a Fleece to Shawl event in Gaithersburg, MD at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair.
The Fleece to Shawl will be held Sunday August 16 from 1:00-4:00PM.
Teams of 3 spinners and 1 weaver have exactly 3 hours to spin a fleece into a wearable shawl. There may be prizes for the guild!
In October, we are planning to offer to hold a Fleece to Shawl demonstration in the courtyard. This will be great to refine our workflow and strategy.
The ultimate goal would be to field a team for the StS for the MD Sheep & Wool next May (May 2, 2027). This is a significant effort, potentially involving signage, costumes, monetary prizes, and the services of a shearer.
Many thanks to Liz Humphries and June Jackson for acquiring Jacob fleeces for us to practice our skirting, carding, and spinning in the grease.
Thanks to Jeane Camelo for storing the fleeces at her house. And more appreciation to June Jackson and Linda George for leading the carding practices at 2:00pm before Spinning class at 3PM on Sundays. Thanks also to Gabrielle Diaz for networking with a relatively local farmer/shearer as a potential resource for next May!
