Knit In Public 2026

Celebrate World Wide Knit in Public Day 2026: Stitch Together in the Sunshine!

Dear fiber arts enthusiasts,

Mark your calendars for June 13, 2026 – the second Saturday in June – when the world comes alive with needles, hooks, and yarn as we celebrate World Wide Knit in Public Day (WWKIP Day)! We will update our FSWGuild members with more information as we get closer to the event. So stay tuned. Here is some history and info on what it is.

Founded in 2005 by Danielle Landes, this joyful event started as a simple idea: get knitters out of their homes and into public spaces to share the magic of fiber arts. What began with just 25 local gatherings has grown into the largest knitter-run celebration on the planet, with events in dozens of countries. It’s all about “better living through stitching together” – proving that knitting, crocheting, and other yarn crafts are for everyone, not just grannies!

Whether you’re a seasoned spinner weaving intricate lace or a beginner fumbling with your first garter stitch, WWKIP Day invites you to embrace the community spirit of fiber arts. Grab your project bag and head to a park, café, beach, or plaza. Knit alongside strangers who quickly become friends, teach a curious passerby how to cast on, or join a local yarn bomb to wrap trees and benches in colorful coziness.

In 2026, let’s make it bigger and brighter! Here are some ideas to inspire your celebration:

  • Host or join a local event: Check yarn shops, guilds, or online groups for meetups. If there’s none near you, start one – it’s easy and rewarding!
  • Go solo (but public): Sit on a bench with your WIP and watch the smiles roll in as people stop to chat.
  • Add a twist: Theme it around charity (knit hats for shelters), yarn swapping, or even picnic-style with fiber friends.
  • Include all fiber arts: Crochet, weaving, spinning – everyone’s welcome in this inclusive celebration.

Knitting in public isn’t just fun – it’s a quiet rebellion against isolation, a way to spark conversations, reduce stress, and show the world the vibrant, modern face of fiber arts. So dust off those needles, wind up some colorful skeins, and let’s stitch the world a little closer together on June 13th.

Share your plans and photos with #WWKIPDay2026 – we can’t wait to see your creations!

Happy stitching, Your friends in the fiber arts guild community 🧶✨
