Date: April 18
Event: Earth Day at Old Mill Park
We are excited to be part of the Earth Festival at Old Mill Park on April 18. Stop by the Fredericksburg Spinners and Weavers Guild booth to see hands-on demonstrations of fiber arts techniques and learn how everyday fibers become yarn, cloth, and finished pieces.
Possible techniques you will see at our booth
- Spinning: How fiber is drafted and twisted into yarn using a drop spindle and spinning wheel.
- Weaving: How warp and weft come together on a loom to create fabric.
- Knitting and crochet: How yarn becomes hats, scarves, and more.
- Felting: How wool fibers lock together to make a dense fabric, plus small project examples.
- Natural fibers and tools: A quick look at wool, alpaca, cotton, and flax, plus carders, bobbins, and other essential tools.
Try-it activities (as time allows)
- Touch and compare different fibers.
- Practice drafting fiber and adding twist using a simple spindle.
- See a small loom in action and learn basic weaving vocabulary.
